Nature reserve

Nature Reserve: Created by the government decree # 31346, the 6th of June 2002, and located along Cabo Frio and Buzios territory, it counts with an area of 9940 ha. This protected area has 6 islands and 6 beaches alongside.

Its fauna presents more than 2000 species, providing that 200 belong exclusively to the Apa. Its flora possess from 1500 to 2500 species, with 26 exclusives from this region (like swallow-tailed hummingbirds, Brazilian tanagers and other birds race).

With a privileged geology, its rocks from 2 billions to 130 millions years, presenting vestiges of the three seismic events which formed the continent and the oceans of our planet.

Apa´s history was built by Tamoios and Goitacas natives, besides it was one of the Brazilian regions first conquered by Europeans. Within the original species in the reserve, we discovered the Golden Lion Tamarind and the Pau Brazil tree.

Guests will be permitted to hear from IEBMA experts (Ecological Institute Buzios Mata Atlántica) of issues regarding ecology and Apa area.
